Dr. Sage Says The New Generation of Dentistry Is Here

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA - Research and technology continue to improve the options available to our patients for replacing missing teeth, how the final result looks and the amount of time needed for treatment, according to San Jose dental expert Dr. Khalil Saghezchi (Sage).
“Replacing one or more anterior teeth, the ones that show when you smile, has always been challenging,” said the San Jose dentist. “Patients want better, faster options.”

The conventional system for replacing a missing tooth or teeth has been a bridge, using adjacent, healthy teeth for stabilization, said Dr. Sage, who owns a San Jose dentistry practice. A bridge can cause issues with the surrounding teeth though, such as roots canal or additional tooth loss.

Another option for replacing missing teeth is a dental implant, an artificial tooth root placed in the jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. This option replaces teeth without affecting bordering teeth, explained Dr. Sage, who provides dental implants at his San Jose dental care practice.

Dr. Sage also uses dental implants at his San Jose cosmetic dentistry practice to support a bridge, eliminate the need for a removable partial denture and provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.

Patients who have good general oral health but have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason can be good candidates for dental implants. An even faster option for patients is an immediate load dental implant.

In certain cases, patients are eligible for a one-stage dental implant process, according to an article the San Jose cosmetic dentist, Dr. Sage, published in a 2004 publication of The Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry. This is also referred to as an immediate load implant because the titanium post insertion and temporary tooth placement are performed immediately after extracting the damaged tooth.

This process preserves the socket, bone and tissue around the tooth and prevents the structure that surrounded the tooth from collapsing over the underlying bone. Immediate load dental implants are another option the dentist and patient have to choose from when replacing missing teeth.

“Advancements in technology will only lead to even more immediate load implant dentistry options,” said Dr. Sage. “This is the next generation of dentistry.”
